U3A Creative Arts Group: plans for summer/autumn 2026:

Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 26 August. I will present an introduction to the music of the American composer Charles Ives, playing recordings of extracts from his Piano Sonata No 2 (the “Concord” sonata), several of his best songs, and two short orchestral pieces including “Central Park in the Dark”.

Our October meeting will be on Wednesday, 21 October (the third Wednesday of the month, because the U3Agroup convenors’ meeting takes place on 28 October). At this meeting we will revisit the subject of paper marbling.

I’ve also moved our December meeting to the third Wednesday of the month, to 16 December, because the fourth Wednesday is too close to Christmas. We will tackle either the songs of Hugo Wolf or the operas and ballets of Manuel de Falla. More definite information is forthcoming.

All of these meetings will take place at my house in central Henley, at 2.30 pm.

These sessions are planned as presentations rather than discussions, so any discussion which does take place will be informal and nobody is obliged to take an active part. The art sessions will not be practical workshops but spoken explanations: materials and techniques will be outlined and samples will be handed out. For the literary sessions, there is no need to read the text in advance although this would be an advantage. Please email the Group Leader, Darius, via the link above to express interest
