Day walks are held on the first Wednesday of every month starting at 10:30. They are generally about 6 miles and include either a stop en route for a snack at a pub or a picnic, both of which make for a very pleasant social get-together.
The pace is steady without being too slow. We are a friendly group and welcome anyone wanting to get about in our beautiful local countryside. Join us as a guest in the first instance to see how you like the concept of the walks – just contact either of the Group Co-ordinators via the link above. Details of the walks will be emailed to regular walkers and will also be posted on this page of the website about a fortnight in advance.

4th February 2026 -Gill Hegarty
The February walk will take place on Wednesday 4th at 10:30am starting from Peppard Church (RG9 5JN), going through Crowsley Park and returning via the Herb Farm in Sonning Common for lunch. It’s about 5.5 miles with a few hills but nothing too arduous!
4th March 2026 - Julia Whitelaw
Meet and park at The Herb Farm Sonning Common RG4 9NJ. A circular walk of 5 miles; no stiles; some uphill/downhill 250 feet. Lunch stop (The Herb Farm café) at the end of the walk. Route takes in Bird Wood, heads uphill towards Frieze Farm, past the entrance to Crowsley Grange and across to Crowsley Park and down towards Kingshill Wood. Then SE in the direction of Bishoplands Farm before turning right and downhill to Morgan’s Wood. The final part retraces the path to The Herb Farm.
1st April 2026 - Sue Hatcher & Anne Deacon
Meet and park at Checkendon Recreation Ground, Parkside, Checkendon RG8 0ST (SU 665832) for a 5.0 mile walk through woods and along country lanes to The Red Lion Pub at Woodcote for a lunch pit stop. The after lunch part of the walk is 2.5 miles through the grounds of The Oratory school on the return to Checkendon.
6th May 2026 - Gill Hegarty
We will start from Whitchurch Hill Recreation Ground RG8 7PW, next to St John's Church (SU787638). We will head towards Goring mostly following the Chiltern Way skirting Gatehampton Farm and into Goring where we'll have lunch at the Catherine Wheel. We will then return via Hartslock Hill. It's about 7-7.5 miles and lunch will be approx half way round.
3rd June 2026 - Julia Whitelaw
Meet and park at The Stag & Huntsman Car Park in Hambleden (RG9 6RP – Pay & Display). The morning walk (c 4.5 miles) is across the Hambleden Valley past Colstrope Farm, up to The Hyde then over to Beeches Farm. The descent will be through the woods, back to the Stag & Huntsman for lunch at 13:00. After lunch the walk is c 2 miles up to Shakespeare's Way and as far as Hutton's Farm. For those wanting to visit the lovely Hambleden Church this is best done at the end of the pm walk.
1st July 2026 - John & Jo Stoves
Meet and park at The Fox and Hounds, Christmas Common, OX49 5HL.The morning walk is about 2.75 miles with one short, steep hill and beautiful and far-reaching views. Lunch at the pub will be at 12 noon. The afternoon outing is 3.5 miles, and typically for the area it will be uphill and downhill but absolutely worth it as the views are stunning. We would describe the full walk as moderate with steep sections.
5th August 2026- Summer Lunch
Our summer lunch will be held at the New Inn, Kidmore End at 12:30. There will be an optional short walk of 3 miles beforehand starting at the pub at 11am.
2nd September 2026 - Ruth Copp
Starting at Nuffield Holy Trinity Church (RG9 5SN) the walk follows a stretch of The Ridgeway known as Grim’s Ditch, an ancient Iron Age earthwork, and continues to the King William IV pub in Hailey for a lunch stop - 3.5 miles. The return to Holy Trinity Church is roughly 2.5 miles.
